what to see in budapest

Hey Fashionistas,

We arrived in Budapest in the middle of the night. Although we were tired AF we got rewarded with a stunning view of the city and all its lights.

We stayed at an Airbnb in downtown and only 15 minutes walking from the parliament. Budapest is a beautiful city and definitely worth the visit. In today’s blog post I listed all must-see things in Budapest.

The river Danube divides the city into two pieces. One-piece calls Buda and the other Pest. The city became a single city in 1873 and formed Budapest.

Parliament
The parliament is seeable from pretty much everywhere. Located right at the river Danube (or Donau how we call it in german) this neo-gothic building is absolutely impressive. The parliament is located at the Pest side of the city.

Basilica
The St Stephens Basilica is a Roman Catholic cathedral. You can also visit the cathedral from the inside but you have to pay for it.

Chain Bridge
The Chain Bridge reminded me of the Tower Bridge in London just a bit smaller. From here you can see the castles and the parliament.

Heroes Square
Heroes square is one of the major and largest squares in Budapest. This square is famous for its iconic statue complex as well as the memorial stone of heroes. From here you can take a short walk to a small castle or visit the zoo.

New York Palace
A beautiful cafe located in Budapest. It’s very upscale and on the expensive side. If you decide to eat here make a reservation ahead of time otherwise you’ll be waiting in line for at least 40 minutes.

Citadel
The perfect place to see the entire city from on top.

Castles
You can either take the Funicular up to the castles or take a small castle bus - both tickets are €8 per person the only difference is that the castle bus drives you around to the different castles whereas the funicular just takes you up.

The castles are a must-see and absolutely stunning. My favorite was this white fairytale castle.

We stayed in Budapest for a day and felt like we’ve seen everything worth seeing. Our evening we spent at the Christmas market and indulged in chimney cake and mulled hot wine

What souvenirs to buy?

My husband thought it’s quite ridiculous but insisted to buy a package of paprika. The seasoning just tastes a bit more different than the paprika seasoning and your house. If you decide to buy this seasoning get it from a grocery store you’ll save money.

Palinka a traditional brandy that origins in Hungary. We bought the traditional peach flavor with fermented peaches in the bottle. We got this 50% volume alcohol beverage for my dad.

Thanks for stopping by!
