9 things worth seeing in Bratislava

Hey Fashionistas,

Slovakia is the last stop on our road trip. Bratislava the capital of Slovakia is a small city located right at the border to Austria.

In my opinion, if you are in Vienna or Budapest I would defiantly visit Bratislava. The city is small enough so you can see everything in a day.

I am going to list everything worth seeing in Bratislava and I am also going to share an insider tip on where to eat well if you travel on a budget.

What to visit?

St. Elizabeth Blue Church
The name reveals it all. This church is completely blue and you can’t possibly oversee it. The blue church is located in the Old Town and I would suggest starting your walking tour at the church.

Bratislava Castle
The castle stands on an isolated rocky hill and can be reached by foot from the old town historic center. We decided not to go all the way up to the castle. Instead, we got a great view of the castle from the Michael’s Gate.

Michael’s Gate
Michael’s Gate is the last standing gate in Bratislava and the best place to see the city from on top. It’s a bit tricky to find the entrance to the tower. The entrance is located on the side of the gate at the museum of arms. The entrance fee is 5 euros per person and includes a visit to the museum.

Primate's Palace
The Primate’s Palace is a light pink building located in the Old Town. The square where its located is also pretty picturesque.

St. Martin’s Cathedral

If you have time you can stop here and even take a look inside but for us, this Cathedral wasn’t that great. Considering the fact that we already went to so many cathedrals in Vienna and Budapest which looked much nicer.

Old Town (Historic Center)
All the touristic sights are located in the Historic Center. During Christmas time you’ll find the Christmas Market here. Also, you’ll find some of the most photographed attractions of Bratislava in Old Town. I am talking about the human-size sculptures.

When you're done exploring Old Town, stop for a Chimney Cake filled with Nutella and heavy whipped cream. We stopped at a cafe near the Michael's Gate.

Devin Castle
One of the most beautiful places in Bratislava. The entrance is only 3 euros per person. Devin Castle was our last stop before we returned back to Vienna to fly back to Germany.

We came about 1:30 hours before closing time. The sun was already setting down creating a magical moment. Devin Castle is actually a ruin that can be visited on top of a mountain overseeing the river Danube.

Grassalkovich Palace

The Presidential Palace is the official seat of the president in Slovakia. The palace also includes a garden that I could imagine is much prettier during spring and summer.

Maximilian Fountain
Maximilian Fountain also knows as Roland Fountain is the most famous fountain in Bratislava. It’s located in the main square.

Where to eat?

You should eat at Bratislavský Meštiansky Pivovar. Here you get authentic Slovenian food and delicious freshly brewed beer. The prices are very affordable and the portions are big.

What souvenir to buy?

Honey wine. Mead or honey wine is made by fermenting honey with water. You can enjoy it warm or cold. Although it calls honey wine, in my opinion, it’s far from sweet.

Thanks for stopping by!
