Hey Guys,

Today I am going to be more personal on my blog. I just celebrated my 5-year wedding anniversary…

...and I want to tell you how I got there.

Born and raised in Germany - I did a semester abroad in Los Angeles in a marketing agency. I stayed in LA for about 6 months. When I first got here I didn’t know anyone but during my stay, I met Eric - my husband. A month later I moved in with him. After 6 months my internship ended and I had to go back to Germany to finish college.

Every 3-4 months I either traveled to Los Angeles or Eric visited me in Hamburg, Germany. We got engaged a year later in the cutest setup ever! Six months later I graduated from college and moved to the states. My family still lives in Germany and we try to visit them every other year.

When we tied the knot it was very low key. We got married in Beverly Hills Civil Court in a short white dress with a handful of our friends. We ended up taking pictures in Beverly Hills and those pictures are beautiful, don’t get me wrong.

At home, we had a beautiful backyard celebration with food and cake. A year later we celebrated with my family in Germany. My mom organized a fantastic dinner it at a really nice restaurant. Everything was perfect but I always wanted to take pictures in a real wedding dress. I never cared about a big wedding with over 100 guests. I never cared about spending over 10,000 dollars on one day where I am most likely be stressed out all day. Don’t get me wrong everyone should do what they want. I rather travel the world but that’s just me. But I always wanted to take images with a real wedding dress so we agreed on taking pictures on our 5-year anniversary in a puffy dress - just the two of us.

5 years flew by in no time. It honestly does not feel that long but I am surprised how fast the time flew by.

For the past couple of months, I have been planning our photo shoot. I did tons of dress research because after all, that’s the most important things. I will be honest with you I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on this dress but I still wanted it to look like a million bucks. Now that’s a challenge. Usually, dresses are expensive and ugly or expensive and pretty looking.

As I mentioned before I did my research and came across Azazie. This online shop sells wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, and formal dresses. The prices are unbeatably affordable! The prices fit into my budget and the wedding dresses all look beautiful on the website.

I know that sometimes clothing look amazing on the website but it looks horrible in real life. But Azazie offers you can try on your dress at home. For only $10 they send you the dress you want (this includes shipping it back) and you can try it on at home. I took advantage of this offer and ordered my desired dress.

Just a few days later the package was waiting on my front porch. How exciting! I tried on the dress, the size fits me like it was meant for me. Let me tell you this dress looked like a million bucks. Jackpot! I found THE dress! I felt like a princess with all these layers of tulle. Believe it or not but this ballgown dress is only $350. The dress also includes a pannier to add the right amount of puffiness. The detail on the dress is just absolutely beautiful - I wish I could wear it more often.

The dress I was looking for was a ball gown because I love the puffiness. I know that I didn't want a strapless dress but I was looking for a deep v cut on the back.

What I am trying to say if you are getting married and are looking for dresses don’t be that person that does not look online. You don’t need to buy your dress in a fancy store with an overpriced price tag on. Also, no one cares if your dress is from a “real” brand.

At the end of the day, it matters how the dress looks on you. Countless times I saw wedding dresses that were way more expensive but looked cheap. It is not about the place you get your dress from it’s about the dress itself.

I want to encourage you to try online stores like Azazie and give them a chance. Trying on your wedding dress in the comfort of your home means no stress, no annoying sales person and you can be yourself.

I also wanted a Wifey leather jacket for our photoshoot so we got crafty. We got this leather jacket from Target, the paint from Michels and the studs from Amazon. We used stencils to create the leathers and roses. The studs added the right amount of edginess to the leather.

I love how our images turned out. We did not use a photographer. Eric is extremely talented when it comes to taking images. He shot all the images of myself. I ordered a tripod and I got a remote control to take pictures of us. The remote control allows a 2-second pause before taking the image which is enough time for both of us to adjust. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

The smoke bombs were a fun idea we had turns out you need a photographer to take images of both of us. Since we did not have one we could only capture me. The remote control and the camera weren’t able to sync up due to the smoke. This is a super fun idea and I am pretty sure we are going to repeat this shot.

Thanks for stopping by!
