Instagramable spots in Vienna

Hey Fashionistas,

Guten Morgen Wien

We made it to Vienna. This is the first city on our 5-day road trip! Today's plan is to see all the instagramable sightseeing places! I'm going to list all instagramable spots in Vienna that are worth seeing.

Must see in Vienna

St. Stephen's Cathedral
We stayed at the Ibis Hotel close to the Westbahnhof. This made it easy for us to take public transportation and drive into the city. The stop “Stephansplatz” stops at this beautiful gothic church with a colorful mosaics roof. This church is one of the most iconic churches in Vienna and a must-see!

Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of art)
This museum is a must-see and this comes from someone who’s not into museums. The entrance fee is 16 euros per person and you could spend nearly the entire day at this museum. The museum opens at 10 AM and I recommend to be there as early as possible for better pictures and lower crowds. The museum has different exhibition halls from a coin chamber to paintings to historical artifacts from Rome and Egypt. For me, the most beautiful part of the museum is the wall paintings and structure.

Christmas market at the Townhall
There are different Christmas markets all over the place but the one I recommend is at the Townhall. Decorated with twinkle lights and Christmas trees made me feel like Santa Claus is just right around the corner. This Christmas market has a lot of handcrafted booths and only a few food places. We ate a “Wiener Potatoe”. This loaded and very huge potato comes with bacon, cheese, onions, garlic, and a creamy sauce. We also got a hot dog and of course Gluhwein (mulled wine).

We also decided to rent some skates and hit the ice rink. I haven't been ice skating in years but always bugged hubby to go with me. The ice rink is an upgraded version compared to your “boring” circle. The ice rink has multiple ways to skate, and it even goes downhill - scary!

Karlskirche
This baroque-style Cathedral stands out in the middle of all the gothic churches. It’s located near the State Opera.

Votiv Church
The Votiv Church is another gothic-styled monument. It’s free to enter the cathedral. The cathedral is located near the town hall and can be reached from here by foot.

City park - Kursalon - Johann Strauss II Monument
Since we visited the city park in November the leaves had turned yellow and all fountains were turned off. Inside the park, you’ll find a small lake and during summer this is a fantastic place for a picnic.

Kursalon

Inside the park, you’ll also have the opportunity to take a picture with the gilded bronze monument of Johann Strauß II, which is one of the most known and most frequently photographed monuments in Vienna. From here you also can see and visit the Kursalon.

Upper and Lower Belvedere Palace
The belvedere place is a baroque style monument. The garden is free to visit. As I mentioned before since we visited during fall all fountains in the garden were turned off to prevent the water from freezing and destroying the pipes. The palace consists of a lower and upper palace.

Amusement Park Prater
Vienna’s fair is a bit outside of the city. The Prater includes two ferry’s wheel and has a Christmas market during winter.

If you’re feeling fancy you can make a reservation for a candlelight dinner at the giant ferry’s wheel but it’s going to be very expensive.

The regular ride with this ferry’s wheel is about 12 euros per person.

St. Francis of Assisi Church
The St. Francic of Assisi Church is probably the most beautiful church I’ve ever seen. This basilica style church looks like a “witch” castle from a Disney Movie with its towers and structures. The church is also known as the Mexico Church.

The square in front of the church is also known as Mexico Square and it got its name from the fact that Mexico was the only country outside the Soviet Union to protest against the Anschluss of Austria to Nazi Germany.

Schönbrunn Palace
A stunning place and main tourist attraction in Vienna. This palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country. You can also visit the palace from the inside but I recommend getting tickets online to ensure you'll get a ticket and be able to skip the line.

Where to eat?

Plachuttas Gasthaus Zur Oper

You can’t visit Vienna and not eat a “Wiener Schnitzel” (Vienna Schnitzel). This breaded and fried mead is made out of veal and one of the most popular dishes. Traditionally it gets served with a slice of lemon and a side of potato salad. I recommend visiting the Plachuttas Gasthaus Zur Oper. They are not only experts at making Wiener Schnitzel but this restaurant also brews its own beer, which I can tell you is very delicious. We ordered Wiener Schnitzel and roasted pork.
