Trip to Königsstuhl in Rügen

mystical lake

Hey Fashionistas,

Another day, another road trip. This time we loaded up my parents and drove to Germany’s largest island called Rügen.

On our first day, we decided to visit the Chalk Rocks (Kreidefelsen), located at the Königsstuhl in Rügen. The chalk rocks are located in a national park and you can climb the mountain to see the rocks from on top with the sea beneath it. Unfortunately, on this day thick fog was covering the area and we couldn’t view that far from the viewing platform.

Hey Fashionistas,

It's day two on our Rügen Road Trip. Today's destination is Binz - but what to do in Binz. This city located on the Baltic Sea offers a hike through the forest to a Hunting Castle. From the parking place to the castle it's about a 40-minute walk.

9 things worth seeing in Bratislava

Hey Fashionistas,

Slovakia is the last stop on our road trip. Bratislava the capital of Slovakia is a small city located right at the border to Austria.

In my opinion, if you are in Vienna or Budapest I would defiantly visit Bratislava. The city is small enough so you can see everything in a day.

what to see in budapest

Hey Fashionistas,

We arrived in Budapest in the middle of the night. Although we were tired AF we got rewarded with a stunning view of the city and all its lights.

We stayed at an Airbnb in downtown and only 15 minutes walking from the parliament. Budapest is a beautiful city and definitely worth the visit. In today’s blog post I listed all must-see things in Budapest.

fiji private island tour

Hey Fashionistas,

Day 5: Our last day

The phone woke us up before our alarm did. The tour company called us to let us know that our tour for today was canceled. They had to cancel due to bad weather and waves. At that moment I was frustrated because I was really looking forward to this tour because it was supposed to take us to some beautiful snorkeling sites.

Hey Fashionistas,

Day 4: Bola Fiji!

Bye-bye cold Sydney and hello sunshine! We flew from Sydney to Nadi and thankfully we came early to the airport. Our initial flight was delayed 6 hours so the airline got us onto an earlier flight. The flight was around 4 hours so not too bad!

Hey Fashionistas,

Day 3: YAY Sydney

Hello, Sydney you are cold! It really felt like winter in Sydney with freezing wind and cold temperatures. Since we started our journey in Cairns with sunny and 75 degrees it felt even colder in Sydney. The worse thing about it is that my wardrobe wasn’t really prepared for cold temperatures.

Hey Fashionistas,

Day 2: Hello Brisbane!

We got up early to catch our 7 AM flight to Brisbane. Did you know that if you fly domestically in Australia the airport lets you bring outside water on the plane? That's sort of scary, isn't it?

Hey Fashionistas,

A few months ago we decided to book another trip - on short notice. Asia, South America, and Australia were in the talking. We quickly skimmed through the pros and cons and ended up with the idea to fly to Australia. Great!

What we didn't know was that we need a Visa to visit this country - I mean we sort of knew. To give you an idea we came up with the idea on Friday and wanted to fly on Sunday.

So I started my research on getting a visa asap. I found a website that promised to expedite the visa. I don't want to mention the website since I wouldn't recommend it.

Happy Halloween!

This was my first time carving a pumpkin and I thought it would be much easier! I went for a typical Mr. Pumpkin ghost face whereas my husband took the cuter approach and created Mrs. Pumpkin with lots of hearts.

Together our pumpkins are undeniable cute! It’s just very unfortunate that they don’t last very long, just a few days after carving them the bugs took over.

Hey Fashionistas,

Who knew that it only takes a 2-hour car drive from LA to feel like you are completely somewhere else? A few days ago we drove up to Lake Arrowhead, it was our first time there. I previously looked for spots that look fall-ish with yellow and orange leaves and preferably a forest. So I came across Lake Arrowhead.

How to wear tulle skirts like a grown up

Hey Fashionistas,

Tulle is one of my favorite fabrics and I especially love this pink tulle skirt. Yes, I am one of those adults that like to wear tulle and feel all kitchy. Every time I walk into a store and see tulle I just have to grab it and it makes me smile.

Hey Fashionistas,

Can’t believe the year is almost over. Fall just started and I am not ready for it. I do like knitted sweaters tho but on the other side, I don’t like when it gets dark early. Luckily, I am living in SoCal so Summer is just a bit longer compared to other states.

My ootd is a cute two-piece that is perfect for colder “summer” days. It’s made out of linen that keeps you cool. I love that the pants are high waisted and loose-fitting - perfect for days that I don’t feel like wearing jeans. This cute two-piece is from Smash + Tess. I am wearing the stripe playset. The quality feels great and I love the pastel colors. You can check out this two-piece here.

Hey Fashionistas,

This is part six of my travel series and our journey is close to the end. Our next stop is Cape Town. When we started traveling I was very excited to arrive in Cape Town.

Day 1:

We stayed at a hotel near the harbor. The temperature felt more like Los Angeles winter - cold but sunny. We checked into our hotel and used the rest of the remaining day to do the Lions Head Hike. I previously looked up the hike and was prepared to do it. We called an Uber who drove us to the trail entrance. We started our hike in the afternoon and about an hour we made it to the top.

Safari in South Africa

budget safari in south africa

Hey Fashionistas,

pilanesberg national parkThis is part 5 of my Travel series. We made it to South Africa, Johannesburg to be more exact. We arrived at the airport at 2 AM, called an Uber. The Uber driver asked us if it was ok to run the red lights. I didn’t really care because I thought to myself, well it’s not my ticket. Soon after he explained that it is absolutely legal to run the red light after 10 PM because people slam your windows and steal stuff out of your car while you’re waiting on a red light - well go ahead and run those lights.

On the internet, it looked like our hotel was in a nice area with lots of stores and restaurants. In reality, everything was empty and abandoned. Our hotel was nice, the room was very spacious. We arrived at the hotel at around 3 AM. We got a few hours of sleep before we got picked up for our last chance to see rhinos at the Pilanesberg National Park.
Our guide told us that we shouldn’t walk around our hotel. The crime rate is still bad here that’s the reason businesses decided to move away from this area. Well, that would explain the abandoned buildings.

We drove around 3 hours to the entrance of the park. We made a stop at a gas station to get some breakfast. Hubby’s and my stomach didn’t do well for the past couple of days so we kept our breakfast light. I also bought some biltong, similar to beef jerky at the gas station. Biltong is a form of dried, cured meat that originated in Southern Africa. I got some game sausages and beef biltong - both tasted pretty yummy. Side note: My cat, Peggy ended up eating all the sausages and leaving me with nothing. She was able to open the package while we were out of town for a week.

Arrived at the Pilanesberg National Park we realized that the vegetation was very different compared to Tanzania. The grass was super high which made it more difficult to spot animals. Also, keep in mind that’s it’s currently winter in South Africa. We drove with a Van inside the park, not an open jeep game drive. For me, it didn’t matter because I pulled my window down and the view was as good as with any other vehicle.

From the beginning, we told our guide that we are here to see rhinos. While he couldn't tell us the exact numbers of living rhinos in this park, he still low-key promised us to see them. We drove around for hours. We got up close to a herd of elephants - the gentle giants are absolutely amazing and I could stare at them all day long. We also saw giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and plenty of pretty birds.

The plants and trees were dipped in yellow, brown and reddish colors making it very picturesque for me. Out of a sudden, our guide stopped the car and told us he might have spotted two rhinos. Excitement broke out in me. Eric grabbed the binoculars and tried to search the wilderness for rhinos. I snapped some pictures. Turned out we just found rhinos - very very far away - but we found them. On my photograph, the rhinos looked like two gray dots. I thought ok that’s it, we’ve seen them.
Our next stop was lunch. We ordered a salad and an ostrich burger with rooibos relish. I can strongly recommend ostrich burgers, super lean and very tasty.

We continued our game drive. I turned my head to the left to see two rhino butts disappearing into the high grass. Our guide immediately stopped the car and turned around but it was too late, the rhinos vanished. Our guide turned the car around a few times in the hope the rhinos would come out again but no luck. So our guide continued the journey and while he was turning the car towards a waterhole we spotted the two glorious rhinos. I can’t believe it! Two rhinos drinking water at the waterhole. Some people probably don’t understand my excitement but it is extremely difficult to find rhinos in the wild. These precious animals are hunted for their horns and are almost extinct.

where to see rhinos in africa

Seeing the rhinos checked the last box on our “Big Five” list. We’ve seen them all. What a successful Safari Trip! This also marked the end of the day trip to the Pilanesberg National Park. While we were on our way out we made one last spot at a water hole close to the exit to see one adult elephant and two juveniles drinking water and yet again our beloved rhinos. What a magical moment. This is nature at its finest.

where to see rhinos in africa
On our way out the road was partially blocked by a huge elephant. Our guide turned the car off and told us he wanted to wait until the elephant crosses the road. He was very uncomfortable passing the gentle giant with the van. A few months ago an elephant smashed his back windshield with his trunks. So we waited a few minutes until the elephant eventually decided to cross the road. I didn’t realize but the steps of an elephant are almost quit.

This really marked the end of our trip and we continued back to our hotel. We had dinner at our hotel and went to bed shortly after. The morning we drove to the airport to continue our journey to Cape Town. At the airport, we indulged in Belgium waffles before boarding the plane. A two-hour plane ride later, we arrived in Cape Town. To be continued…

Thanks for stopping by!

what to do in cairo

Hey Fashionistas,

This is part three of my travel series. Our next stop is Cairo, Egypt. Bevor I start telling you about what we did I want to talk about Egypt as a whole.

The number question we received from friends, family and other people we met along the way is “Did you feel safe”, or “Is it safe to visit Egypt”. Yes, we felt safe but we also didn’t walk around at night. We only booked private tours and we don’t look like a super tourist with a huge camera hanging around my neck. If you acknowledge your surroundings and don’t act naive you will have a good experience - but that applies to anywhere you’re going.

Instagram Locations in London

Hey Fashionistas,

We are done with traveling (for now). We took 15 flights in just 3 weeks. We started our journey in London and finished it in Dubai with a lot of stops in between. I am going to break down each city and tell you about my experience and my recommendations.

As I mentioned before we started in London. This is a 10 hour and something direct flight from LAX. Not bad at all for even a mini getaway. Nowadays you already find cheap airfares that take you there.

We stayed at Lords Hotel and I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. It was located in Notting Hill which is a great area for being central plus this area has tons of restaurants and bars. But the downside was that we had to carry our luggage all the way up to the 4th floor. Internet access wasn’t free and they even charged us for storing out luggage before the flight left. Is this is a great way to make more money or to exploit the tourists?

We stayed 2 1/2 days in London and this is a typical itinerary to see everything that’s worth seeing.

Day 1:

We arrived at around 2PM so we still had the entire day in front of us, considering the fact that the sun goes up at 5 AM and goes down at 9:30PM. We explored the area around our hotel. It was my second time in London and it was Eric’s first.

On my sightseeing list for this day:

Notting Hills colorful houses. Our hotel wasn’t too far so we walked to Notting Hill. This area has lots of restaurants and bars. We ended up eating at a Thai place which was pretty good. Notting Hill has a lot of Insta spots to offer - which you will find as you walk. After seeing all these colorful houses we walked to Churchill’s Pub. Turns out it was more difficult to get a great shot because of all the cars passing by.

Next stop: Our hotel for a quick outfit change.

Before dinner, we stopped at Piccadilly Circus which looks like the Time Square which all its lights and advertisement. I recommend coming here when it’s already dark to get the whole atmosphere. Be aware that this is a very touristic spot.

My first time around I also went to the Tower Bridge after darkness because the entire bridge lights up. So I wanted to show hubby how it looks.

Initially, we wanted to go to Feya cafe but by the time we arrived the cafe was already closed so we saved this spot for day 3 and instead we found this amazing Italian restaurant. 2 Pizzas and a rose later we drove back to our hotel.

Day 2:

We started the day early to get a prime seating spot at Peggy Porschen - one of the most Instagrammable cafes in London. The cafe is such a cute corner spot to eat breakfast. We got a variety of pastries and cupcakes. The cafe filled up in no time.

Peggy Porschen is in walking distance from the Bakery Ansel. On your way there you will find a lot of stores with flower decoration and photo opportunities. We didn’t end up eating at the bakery but we stopped for a quick photo.

From here we walked to Buckingham Place. At around 10 AM we saw the change of the guards. A good amount of people were waiting for this moment but it left me feeling disappointed. Not that I expect anything crazy but it was literally just the change of the guard. Nothing special.

After that, we walked to the next tube station (underground) and made our way to Westminster Abbey. This area covers a lot of sightseeing attractions.

Parliament Square

The Victoria Tower Gardens

Here you’ll find the church the Royals got married at, you can see the Big Ben which is currently wrapped in bubble wrap at least that what it seems like until 2021. It sucked that the Big Ben was under constructions but nothing we could do about it. Also in the area Parliament Square, Palace of Westminster, and The Victoria Tower Gardens.

After we relaxed at the park we made our way back to the underground station and jumped into another train to see the Tower Bridge this time during day time. The best pics can be taken from the Dolphin Fountain.

Next Insta stop: London Eye

The London Eye is basically a huge fairy wheel with egg looking chambers. My recommendation reserve your ticket online this will save you a few pounds (or dollars in our case). You can select a time slot but it does not matter because you still end up in a line waiting for your turn to ride. This is a great way to see London from above.

The ride takes about 30 minutes and afterward, we walked to a Fish and Chips Food truck. What would a visit to London be without Fish & Chips?

It started to rain for the second half of the day so our next stop was perfect. We drove via train of course to the National History Museum. Typically I am not a big fan museum and I wouldn’t normally “waste” my vacation to see art but this museum is a must-do. It’s free to visit which is good and bad because it attracts a lot of people. The museum is incredibly and way too big at the same time. We were trying to find the exist but ended up in a whole lot of exhibitions. After an hour of searching for the exit, we finally found it.

Next stop: Saint Aymes Cafe

Day 3:

Our last day started with you guessed it -  a stop at a cafe. This time we had breakfast at Feya Cafe. The place is super cute and the food is even more impressive. Eric had the pancake breakfast with edible flowers and purple whipped cream and I ate the rainbow smoothie bowl. I love the attention to detail this restaurant puts into their dishes. Defiantly worth a stop.

Next stop: Leadenhall market which is not necessary to see but you can take a quick pic just to say you were here.

After that, we visited the St. Paul’s Cathedral from the outside. Admission is horrendously expensive. A great spot to take a pic for your Instagram is at the mall.

We also stopped at Convent Garden which was in my opinion, not a needed stop because it is just an outdoor mall packed with people.

We also visited Neals Yard which is known for its colorful houses and restaurants. Since we are on a tight schedule we just snapped some pics and headed to the next stop.

Neals Yard

From here we took the train to Hyde Park. You could spend an entire day here but we just walked to the lake and made our way to the next food stop. Initially, we wanted to eat at this cafe but it seemed very small from the outside and the food looked disappointing. Not to mentioned the hostess was rude so we left.

So we decided to go back to the Italian Place from Day 2. After we had dinner the other day at this place I joked and said to Eric will be back tomorrow he laughed. Turns out I was dead serious. Two pizzas and a rose later we had to go back to our hotel to leave to the airport.

My resume: In just these 2 1/2 days we walked more than we would ever walk in a month. Both of my feet had blisters and jumping in and out of trains gave me sore throat but we wouldn’t have done it any other way.

Thanks for stopping by!
